Wauwatosa Montessori School has been selected to receive the Nickelodeon Our World US Community Fund, supported by ChangeX. The school has been provisionally granted $3,000.00 to support the initiation of their project.
With this funding, Principal Melissa Pallin and the newly-formed Wauwatosa Montessori School Recess Team aims to promote inclusivity, social emotional learning and positive play. Pallin and the Recess Team will collaborate with Playworks experts through training and coaching sessions to gain a deeper understanding of their role in fostering positive play, recognize the significance of play in child development, and learn various systems and games to incorporate during non-instructional periods.
"We firmly believe that every child deserves inclusive and engaging time for play," said Pallin. "This grant funding will enable Wauwatosa Montessori to implement the Playworks program and make positive changes to enhance our students' educational experience."
The Nickelodeon-supported fund is dedicated to empowering children by providing resources and support to fund projects that might otherwise lack financial backing. The fund’s primary areas of focus include arts; science, technology, engineering and math (STEM); and environmental sustainability. Children will actively lead these projects alongside an adult co-leader, thereby having the opportunity to shape their communities for the better.
