TikTok, Snapchat, and AI, Oh My: Helping Young People Navigate Technology in the Modern Age
Description: Technology is evolving rapidly, and the tools young people use—especially social media and artificial intelligence—are deeply shaping their lives. While these technologies offer some benefits, they also come with significant challenges. They can exacerbate mental health concerns, hinder school engagement, introduce new forms of bullying, and expose young people to potentially harmful or misleading information.

In this session, Dr. Gabriel Velez will review key research and share best practices to help adults guide their teenage children in navigating these complex technologies. Dr. Velez is an Associate Professor at Marquette University’s College of Education, with expertise in young people's identity development, mental health, and their transition to college. He is also a former high school teacher and developmental psychologist.
