Mrs. Rachel Kumferman, a school social worker at McKinley Elementary School in Wauwatosa, was recognized as a 2024 Wisconsin Teacher of the Year during a surprise ceremony at the school today. State Superintendent Dr. Jill Underly, along with dignitaries including Rep. Robyn Vining, Superintendent Dr. Demond Means, Chief of Pupil + Family Supports Luke Pinion, and Director of Student Success Mrs. Emilie O’Connor attended the all-school celebration.
Kumferman has worked for the Wauwatosa School District for 22 years and has served as the District’s McKinney-Vento Homeless Liaison since 2011. Kumferman has deep expertise in social work and counseling, but also contributes her talents to the school crisis team and equity team, and she serves as a PBIS (positive behavior interventions and supports) Tier Two coach, and much more. Earlier this year, Kumferman was recognized by the Herb Kohl Foundation and received a 2023 Teacher Fellowship Award.
Kumferman is one of just five teachers to receive the 2024 Teacher of the Year designation for inspiring students and fostering a love of learning, motivating others in the school community and demonstrating leadership and service both inside and outside the classroom.
