The Wauwatosa School Board will meet for its first meeting of the month today, Monday, May 8, 2023. The meeting will be held at the Fisher Administration Building (12121 West North Ave.) in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. The meeting will start at 6:00 p.m. A link to the meeting livestream can be found here.
The first order of business will be for the Board to recognize individuals who received Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Awards, including students Vivienne Andersen, Audrey Catlin and Olivia Close of Wauwatosa East and Fabiana Chacon Morales of Wauwatosa West; school social worker Ms. Rachel Kumferman, and Washington Elementary Principal Mr. Joe Russell.
The Board will also recognize students from Wauwatosa Wauwatosa West High School who are enrolled in American Public Policy Special Emphasis (APPSE) and participated in the national We the People competition in Washington, D.C. Wauwatosa West students placed fifth in the nation. Students will be recognized with certificates honoring their achievement. Mr. Chad Mateske, social studies teacher at Wauwatosa West High School will also be recognized for his leadership related to APPSE. Students in Wauwatosa East's APPSE program will be recognized at the May 22, 2023 meeting.
Immediately following, the Board will conduct its Annual Reorganization and take action to elect Officers and the Board Secretary. The Board will allow public comment prior to voting on this action item.
Following the Annual Reorganization, the Board will take action to Appoint a CESA Representative and appoint committee members including those who will sit on the Policy Committee, Legislative Advocacy Committee, and the Finance and Resource Committee. Then, the Board will take action to Appoint an Expulsion Hearing Panel and Alternative Board Member. Because these are action items, public comment will be heard prior to each vote.
Following these actions, discussion will be held related to the Board’s participation in the upcoming commencement ceremonies at Wauwatosa West and Wauwatosa East High Schools. Because this is not an action item, no public comment will be heard on this topic.
Then, following review and action related to the Consent Agenda and associated public comment, the Board will be asked to take action and approve the administrative contract for Mr. Ted Martin as principal of McKinley Elementary School. Prior to the vote, public comment will be heard on this action item.
The Division of HR will also present Additional Enhancements to the Teacher Compensation System and the 2023-24 Staffing Report.
Then, the Division of Finance + Operations will present a Review of the District’s Cash Position and Update Regarding the Development of the 2023-2024 School Year Budget.
And finally, the Division of Operations + Finance will present a Resolution Authorizing the Transfer of Funds, the Establishment of an Escrow Account with Respect to and the Defeasance of Certain of the Principal and Interest on the General Obligation School Building and Improvement Bonds, Series 2019A, dated March 6, 2019 and Certain of the Principal and Interest on the General Obligation School Building and Improvement Bonds, Series 2019B, dated March 6, 2019.
